Editions: A Fall, Holiday or Weddings Version of Your Site

An edition is the same listing site or group site with a different photo set, different words and, if you like, a different brand: a Fall edition that leads with foliage and the fire pit, a Thanksgiving edition built around the dining room, a Weddings edition with the ceremony lawn and the event setup, a Couples edition for the people who search for a romantic weekend. Your Default page stays exactly as it is. Each edition has a page of its own on your site, such as /fall or /weddings, and can also take over the home page when its season comes round.

Editions are for the searches your home page never wins. Someone typing "waterfront rental for Thanksgiving" or "wedding venue on the water" is looking for a page that answers that search, with those photos and those words. An edition page is that page, kept distinct from your home page so the two never compete.

Where to find it

The Editions switcher sits in the editor header, beside Edit Listing | Calendar, on a listing site (Sites → Listing sites → open the site → Layout) and on a group site (Sites → Group sites → open the site → Layout). On a phone it sits at the top of the Layout tab. It lists Default and every edition with its state: Live now, its window (Aug 15 – Nov 30), Own page, Link only, Off, Drafting… or Ready to review, plus the editions Haven suggests from your photos and searches.

Making one

  1. Open the switcher and choose + New edition.
  2. Give it a Name and a Kind: Season, Holiday, Occasion (weddings, retreats, reunions) or Audience (couples, families, groups, dog owners). The kind sets what the edition starts with: which photos it pulls and whether it has a schedule.
  3. Photos to pull shows the season and occasions Haven will look for among your photos; change them if you like.
  4. When to show — On the site gives it an annual window (Haven suggests one from when guests book that season) and, if you want, a stay-dates window, so a guest who picks October dates sees the Fall edition. Only by link or its own page keeps the home page as it is.
  5. Where — every edition gets its own page address (/fall) and Show in search is on. A Tracked link opens the site in this edition from an Instagram bio, an email or a flyer.
  6. Brand — follow the site's brand, pick another brand from your library, or let Haven draft one from the edition's photos (Occasion and Audience editions).
  7. Search phrases — the searches the page targets. Haven fills them from the name, the kind, your location and, when your domain has Search Console data, what people already search.
  8. Choose Build. Haven drafts the edition in the background and the switcher reads Drafting…, then Ready to review.

What Build drafts, and from what

Build never invents anything. It works from your own photos and your site's existing words:

  • Hero slides, story-card photos and gallery order come from the photos that read as that season or occasion. Haven reads each photo's season and occasions on its own after every upload and import; Tag by season on the Photos tab reads any it has not read yet. A season you set on a photo yourself is never changed.
  • Title, tagline, hero words and search listing are rewritten with the edition's angle, from the copy your site already has. No new amenities, places, distances or prices appear, and the words never mention water, snow or foliage unless a chosen photo shows it.
  • One or two sections of its own for the edition's page: a section on the season or occasion drawn from your local guide and nearby events, or on what the place offers for a wedding or a retreat, and a short FAQ. These are what make the edition page a distinct page.
  • An annual window for a Season or Holiday edition, from how far ahead guests book that season (or the standard sixty days when there are too few bookings to tell).

Everything Build drafts is yours to change in the same editor. Switch to the edition in the header and edit the hero, any section, the page words, the brand or the search listing; a small badge on each shows Fall when the edition has its own value and Follows Default when it does not, with a reset beside it. Structure follows Default: which sections exist and how they are styled is shared, and an edition can hide a section, place its own sections, or add a section that appears only on its page.

A photo set Haven drafted stays Drafted: when you upload new photos that read as that season, Haven refreshes it. Once you change a set by hand it becomes Custom and Haven leaves it alone.

Which edition a guest sees

Nothing is decided while the page loads. The edition a guest sees comes, in this order, from:

  1. The edition's own page — a guest who opens /weddings sees the Weddings edition.
  2. A tracked link — a link that opens an edition keeps it as the guest moves through the site.
  3. The guest's stay dates — when the dates a guest picks fall in an edition's stay-dates window.
  4. The calendar — when today falls in an edition's annual window, the home page shows that edition's photos and words. Its search title stays the home page's own.
  5. Otherwise, Default.

Search engines see exactly what guests see: no cookies, referrers or search keywords change the page.

An edition page is served to search engines once it is ready: its own title (different from the Default page's), its own search title and description, at least 150 words of its own, at least one section of its own, at least three edition photos and a search phrase. Until then it answers noindex and stays out of the sitemap, so a thin page never competes with your home page as a duplicate. The edition sheet reads Ready for search or Not in search yet with what is missing, and Build drafts all of it.

A ready page is self-canonical, listed in your sitemap and llms.txt, linked from the footer's Explore column and from your other edition pages, and carries your site's structured data under its own title. Add it to the header if you want it in the navigation. Keep edition pages live all year: a Fall page that stays up ranks before fall comes round.

In Sites → SEO, Pages → Site map lists each edition page with its readiness checklist and warns when another page targets the same phrases; the Plan checklist has an Edition pages step (not scored, and editions never count toward the two-landing-page cap); Performance shows an Edition pages block with each page's clicks, times shown, position, top searches and whether Google has indexed it, beside the same window a year ago. The search intent audit proposes a New edition when real searches ask for a season, holiday, occasion or audience your site has no page for. See SEO and Discoverability.

Translations

An edition's words are translated into your site's languages like the rest of the site, so /es/fall shows Spanish copy once the translation has run.

What editions never do

  • They never change your Default page. Build writes only the edition.
  • They never invent amenities, places or prices, and never mention water, snow or foliage unless a chosen photo shows it.
  • They never change a season you set on a photo.
  • They never change which edition a guest sees from a cookie, a referrer or a search keyword.
