Put a video on your site

A clip you already have can go on a listing or a group site. Haven takes an uploaded file (MP4, WebM, or MOV, up to 5 GB), a YouTube or Vimeo link, or a clip from a Google Drive or Dropbox account connected under Marketing → Media Library. A share link from either service is not a player. Download the file and upload it, connect the account and pick the clip from the library, or put the film on YouTube or Vimeo and embed that.

When to use

Open this when the video is in hand and the open question is where it can sit, and which control actually accepts it.

A video on a guidebook page is edited with the guidebook, not with these site sections. See Guidebook Menus, Explore Pages & Videos.

Hero

The top of the page has more than one video control. Each one is named below, with the layout it belongs to.

Cover video

On a listing, a cover video replaces the cover photo and plays as the hero background. It starts on its own, muted, and a single clip loops. Allow audio lives in Video settings when the clip should open with sound. Format, length, and the rest of the cover-video rules are in Adding Photos & Video to Your Property.

  1. Open the property editor and go to the Space tab.
  2. Open Photos & Spaces.
  3. Use the Cover video card above the gallery. Click it, or drop the file onto it.

Listing hero slides

Where: Property editor → Layout tab → Home → right panel → Hero → Hero layout

  1. For a carousel, set Hero layout to the carousel. The slide card is titled Carousel slides. With no slides yet it reads "Add photos, videos, or a mosaic."
  2. Click Upload and choose the file. From listing uses a photo or video already on the listing. From library uses Marketing → Media Library, including a connected Google Drive or Dropbox.
  3. On a video slide, open Video settings for the start point, Allow audio, and Loop.

Collage photos, shown when the layout is the collage, takes photos only. On the other layouts the card is titled Hero photos or Hero photo, and Upload takes a video there as well.

Embed a video, tour, or widget does not apply to the hero. A hero clip is an uploaded slide. Carousel tiles and team cards are the same: photos on that embed path, not an embed.

Group site hero

Where: Group site editor → Layout tab → Home → right panel → Hero → Slides

  1. On the Slides card, choose My own slides.
  2. Click Upload and choose the video. From properties adds a photo or video you already have. From library picks a clip from Marketing → Media Library.
  3. Open the gear on a video slide for Video settings: start point, Allow audio, and Loop.

Listing photos on that same card rotates through the photos and hero videos already on the listings attached to the site.

On a listing, a video can occupy any place a photo can: a gallery tile, the lead photo slot, or a Story or Parallax section.

Where: Property editor → Space tab → Photos & Spaces

  1. Open Photos & Spaces.
  2. Click Add photos or videos, or drop the file on the gallery.
  3. Drag the video into the slot you want. The lead photo slot, a Story section, and a Parallax section all take it.

From library on that toolbar picks an upload, a finished creative, or a clip from a connected Google Drive or Dropbox. The file is added as if you had uploaded it.

Walkthrough

A video walkthrough is a click-to-play tour immediately above the photo gallery. Guests tap play. The video is not muted, it does not loop, and it does not autoplay.

Where: Property editor → Space tab (left sidebar) → Photos & Spaces → Create → Video walkthrough

  1. Open Photos & Spaces and click Create.
  2. Under Video walkthrough, click Upload video, From library, or Choose from gallery for a video already on the listing.
  3. The tour sits above the gallery. That video is left out of the gallery grid, so it does not also play there as a muted loop.

Video story and other sections

Video story is a full-bleed section: the video is the section, with an optional caption. Story, Parallax, and Article can show a YouTube or Vimeo video, a Matterport tour, or another embed where the photo sits.

Where (property site): Property editor → Layout tab → Home → right panel → Sections (or click a site tab → Page Content) → Add section Where (group site): Group site editor → Layout tab → Home → right panel → Page Content → Add section

Video story

  1. Choose Video story.
  2. Click the video slot. The empty slot says Click to add a video.
  3. In the chooser, Upload from device accepts JPG, PNG, or WebP. The clip does not go through that button.
  4. Add the file to the listing first, with Photos & Spaces → Add photos or videos (or From library there). Then return to the Video story, open Choose from your photos, and pick the clip. The hint under that choice says "Reuse a photo from any listing." On this section the picker also lists videos already on a listing; Videos narrows the list to them.
  5. For a YouTube or Vimeo link, a Matterport tour, or other embed code, choose Embed a video, tour, or widget, paste the https link or the embed code, and click Use embed.

Choose from your library on that dialog opens Marketing → Media Library, then sends the chosen file through the photo upload. Use it for a still. A video file goes on the listing first and then through Choose from your photos, or onto YouTube or Vimeo and in through the embed.

Story, Parallax, and Article

  1. Add or open a Story, Parallax, or Article section.
  2. Click the photo.
  3. Choose Embed a video, tour, or widget for a YouTube or Vimeo link, a Matterport tour, or embed code. The link has to be https. Use embed places the player where the photo was. Remove embed brings the photo back.
  4. A clip already on the listing can also fill a Story, Parallax, or Article through Choose from your photos, the same picker as on a Video story. A gallery video dragged into a Story or Parallax slot is the other way in. See Gallery.
  5. On a Story section that holds an uploaded or picked video, Play with sound sits under the video. Off, the clip loops silently. On, it keeps looping silently until someone taps play, then it plays from the start with sound and the usual player controls.

Carousel tiles and team cards take photos on this path. They do not take the embed, and a video chosen for one of those cards is refused.

Social wall

A social wall shows public posts. It does not take a file from your computer. Each tile is an Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube post, Reel, Story, Highlight, or carousel.

Where (property site): Property editor → Layout tab → Home → right panel → Sections → Add section → Social wall Where (group site): Group site editor → Layout tab → Home → right panel → Page Content → Add section → Social wall

  1. Add a Social wall section.
  2. Paste one public post link into the link box. A YouTube link is one video. A channel or playlist link is not accepted, and a private video has to be Public or Unlisted before it can be added.
  3. Click Add post.

The tile keeps the post's picture. A YouTube tile plays in the tile when a guest taps it. Nothing from YouTube loads before that tap.

Google Drive

A Google Drive link that ends in /view is not rewritten into a player. Pasted into an embed, it is the Drive page in a frame, which is not the film. A Dropbox share link is the same. Leave both out of the embed box, the hero, and the social wall.

  1. Download the file and upload it where the control takes a video: Photos & Spaces, a hero Upload, or Video walkthrough. The file needs to be MP4, WebM, or MOV, up to 5 GB.
  2. Or connect the account and pick the clip from the library. Open Marketing → Media Library, then Cloud storage, and choose Connect Google Drive or Connect Dropbox. Sign in and allow Haven to read the files. Haven does not change or delete anything there. The clips appear in a folder named after the service, each tile marked with that service, and From library on a gallery, a hero slide, or a walkthrough can select them.
  3. Or put the film on YouTube or Vimeo and add it with Embed a video, tour, or widget on a Story, Parallax, Article, or Video story, or paste a public YouTube post link on a Social wall.

If Google Drive or Dropbox says the connection is not available yet, Haven is still setting it up, and Connect Google Drive or Connect Dropbox appears once it is. The longer account steps are in Making Social Posts and Ads.
