Local Guide & Recommendations

The Local Guide lets you recommend nearby stores, restaurants, things to do, and services to your guests. This is different from paid upsells. The Local Guide is free, informational content that helps guests explore the area. Paid extras you fulfill yourself are native experiences and add-ons. An optional Host Co store can also list partner-fulfilled products.

What Is the Local Guide?

The Local Guide is a curated list of your favorite local spots that appears on your property website and in your House Manual. Guests see your recommendations organized by category:

Stores — Groceries, essentials, and nearby shopping
Restaurants — Memorable meals close to your stay
Things to do — Experiences and local favorites worth exploring
Services — Helpful services around the neighborhood (pharmacy, car rental, etc.)

How It Works

Tour Recommendation Engine

Haven includes a tour recommendation engine that suggests options based on your property's address. Click Generate recommendations and Haven will search for popular local spots and pre-populate your list with suggestions.

Add Your Own Suggestions

You can also type in your own suggestions. If you have a favorite coffee shop, restaurant, or attraction, add it manually. Haven will then:

Write a professional blurb — AI generates a polished description of why guests would love it
Find appropriate photos — Haven locates relevant images for the place
Add directions — Maps and navigation info are included automatically

You can review and edit everything before saving. Place descriptions can be up to about 500 words (4,000 characters). Guests see a short preview on the card and the full write-up when they open the place.

Generate — Use the recommendation engine to get AI-suggested places, or add your own
Review — Haven writes blurbs, finds photos, and adds directions on your behalf
Edit — Adjust descriptions, reorder, or remove any recommendation
Save — Your curated list appears on your property page and in the House Manual

Reorder lists and places

Guests see your lists (Restaurants, Activities, …) and the places in them in the order you set here, unless they temporarily sort the list themselves (nearest first, A–Z, or host tips first) on the property page or in the guest guidebook. That override does not change the order you configured:

Reorder places — Drag a place by its handle (the grip at the left of the card) to move it up or down within its list. On a phone, press and hold the grip, then drag. The order saves automatically.
Reorder lists — Open a list's tab and use the Move earlier / Move later arrows next to the list name to change where that list sits in the tab row. The first list is the one guests land on.

Order carries everywhere the guide appears: the property page, multi-unit site tabs, and the printed House Manual. Guides in your library keep their order on every listing they're attached to.

Where to Find It

Open your property's Edit Listing page
Open the Space tab (first tab in the listing editor)
Open Location — the section is titled Location & local guide
Scroll to the Local recommendations card (below address, location features, and getting around)
You must have a property address set before you can generate recommendations

Rename the guest-facing heading

The section title guests see on property and group pages defaults to Host-curated local favorites (and Local Guide in the page nav). To rename it, open the Local recommendations editor and type a Name guests see. Leave it blank to restore the default. The same name is used on newly generated House Manuals.

Multi-unit site tabs have their own tab name (the pill in the collection nav). Rename that tab separately on the site editor if you want the tab label to match.

Local Guide library, property pins, and multi-unit site defaults

Local Guides are a reusable library, so you can curate a guide once and use it across many listings instead of rebuilding it for each one. The central hub is Grow your brand → Shared Page Content → Local guides in the host sidebar (or /host?tab=local-guides), with two inner areas:

Library — create and edit reusable guides. This is where the wording, places, photos, and categories actually live.
Property settings — see which listings and multi-unit sites use which guide, set a default for a multi-unit site, and choose how it applies to members.

Attaching a guide to a listing

Every listing's guide is a library guide. The first time you open Edit Listing → Space → Location → Local recommendations, Haven adds that listing's guide to your library (named after the listing, e.g. Blue Fin Guide) and you edit it right there. The Source picker lets you:

Pick another library guide — attach this listing to a saved guide. The listing then renders a live snapshot of it, and edits made here apply to every site it's attached to (the editor tells you when it's shared).
New guide for this listing — start a fresh guide that only this listing uses.

An Open in library button deep-links to the same guide in the Local guides library, where you can rename it.

Multi-unit site defaults and inheritance

On a Multi-Unit Site edit page you can set a default local guide that its member listings inherit automatically — including listings you add to the site later. The resolution rule is the same as Haven's other libraries: a listing-level pin overrides the multi-unit site default, a listing with no pin inherits the site default, and if a listing belongs to two sites that imply different guides Haven flags the conflict instead of guessing.

Sites whose listings are in different towns

Open the site's Local Guide tab → Manage guide. Use Create & generate (or New guide for this site in the source menu). Haven clusters listings that sit in the same travel market and builds one area per town — not one search halfway between them.

Guests on the site page switch towns with area chips (hidden when every listing is in the same place).
A listing that inherits the site guide only shows the area it sits in. A Canggu villa does not inherit Ubud restaurants.
A listing too far from every area shows no recommendations rather than the nearest wrong town.

You can still attach an existing library guide from the source menu instead of creating a new one.

Editing a guide

A guide is edited in place — on any listing it's attached to, or in Grow your brand → Shared Page Content → Local guides → Library — and your changes propagate to every listing and site it's attached to. Want a one-off version for one listing? Choose New guide for this listing; the rest keep the shared guide. A listing that inherits a multi-unit site default is read-only on the listing — pick Use own guide to take your own copy, which it.

Tips for Success

Curate thoughtfully — Only recommend places you'd personally send friends and family
Keep it updated — Remove closed businesses or seasonal spots that no longer apply
Reorder by priority — Drag recommendations up or down; the order is used in your House Manual
Include variety — Mix restaurants, stores, and activities so guests have options for different needs
