How Haven stay search works: describe the trip, get real stays, book direct

Haven stay search (bookwithhaven.com/stays, and the same search in the Haven app) lets you describe a trip in plain language and returns real, bookable stays from independent hosts — then sends you to the host's own site to book direct. There is no guest service fee.

What you can type

One box, your words. Any combination of:

• A place — a city, town, region, state, country, island chain, or landmark: "Florida Keys", "Tulum", "Costa Rica", "near Key Largo".
• Dates — exact ("Oct 3–11", "Dec 26 to Jan 2"), approximate ("around October 3–11", "roughly", "give or take 2 days"), a month ("a week in July", "mid-March"), or none at all.
• Who's coming — "2 adults and a toddler", "for 8", "the two of us".
• Pets — "with our dog".
• Must-haves — "hot tub", "pool", "EV charger", "pet-friendly".
• The vibe or occasion — "jungle, away from noise", "walking distance to the theater", "a quiet place to write".

Examples that just work:

• "A jungle home in the Caribbean, near nature, away from the tourist strip"
• "Apartment in New York during concert week, walking distance to the theater"
• "Florida Keys, Oct 3–11, approximately, 2 adults and a dog"
• "A quiet place to write for a week in March"
• "Oceanfront with a hot tub for 8, exact dates Dec 26–Jan 2"
• "Wilton CT" (a plain place or listing name is fine too)

How dates are read

• Dates without a year mean the next time they occur.
• Approximately / around / roughly / ish / give or take → the window is widened, by default ±3 days or the tolerance you state.
• Flexible / open / "a week in July" → the period is treated as open; any stay with an open window of that length in the period counts.
• Exact / only / fixed (or dates with no flexibility word) → the literal dates.
• When your literal dates are closed at a stay, the result shows the nearest open window — "Available Oct 4–11" — instead of hiding the stay.

How results are ranked

Every bookable stay is scored on three things: where it is (inside the place, nearby, elsewhere), whether it fits (sleeps enough, allows your pets, has your must-haves), and what it's like (the host's own description, amenities, local guide, and experiences matched against your vibe). Results are then shown in three honest tiers:

1. Exact matches — at the place and fits the party.
2. Close matches — nearby, or at the place but the party doesn't quite fit, or only other dates are open.
3. Similar stays — related by vibe.

When you don't give a place, the tiers are "Best matches / More like this / Similar" and are ranked by vibe and must-haves. If nothing matches the literal ask, the search says so and shows the closest real options. It never invents inventory.

Availability and prices

With dates, each result is checked against the host's own calendar rules — blocked nights, minimum stays, advance-notice and check-in-day rules — and priced from the host's own rates, fees, and taxes, using the same estimate the host's booking page shows. The total on the card is the total you'll see at checkout. Prices are never shown without dates.

The concierge note and refinements

Above the results you'll see a short note — one or two honest sentences about what was found (or not), a why-line under each top stay, and tap-to-refine chips ("Try nearby: Key Largo", "Add dates", "With a dog"). Everything in the note is grounded in the stays shown; it never claims availability, prices, or amenities that aren't there.

Booking — and what you pay

Each result opens the host's own branded site. You pay the host's rate, their cleaning fee and taxes, and any card-processing fee the host chooses to pass through — all shown before you book. Haven adds no guest service fee, and hosts pay nothing to be found in the search, so the direct rate is usually the best rate.

Do I need an account?

No. Search and browse are open to everyone. You only create an account if you want to save favorites or keep your trips in one place (Trips). If Google One Tap applies, it offers a one-click sign-in, but it never gates the search.

Where else the search lives

The same search runs in Haven's native mobile app, on the same API as the website, so a search means exactly the same thing on every screen.
