Events: Show Local Events on Your Site and Book Stays Around Them
The Events section shows the things people travel to your area for (festivals, concerts, games, graduations, conferences, holiday markets, your own events) as story cards on your site. Every event gets a page of its own on your site, at /events/<name>, with the dates, the venue, your own words about it and a stay package: the nights around the event, a perk if you offer one, a code if you want one, and your homes that are free for exactly those nights, each one click from booking them.
Guests plan the whole trip on your site. The organiser's page is a small link at the bottom ("Event details from Visit Rochester"), not the next step.
Event pages are built to be found. Each one carries the event's details in the format search engines use for event results and AI assistants read as facts, sits in your site's sitemap and its llms.txt, and has a title like "Rochester Lilac Festival 2027: dates and where to stay". Someone searching where to stay for the festival lands on your page, already looking at your homes.
Adding an Events section
- Open the page you want it on (Home, or any page) and click Add section → Events.
- The section opens on Manage events. Add your events there (see below).
- Pick how the section looks:
- Layout: Story cards (a sideways row of tall photo cards) or Grid (three across).
- Show: All upcoming events, or the next 4, 8 or 12 with a See all events button.
- Month chips: a row of months above the cards. A guest picks May and sees what is on in May, then Check dates in May opens your site's search (on a listing site, the booking bar). This is the "seasonal guide" view.
- Featured only: just the events you starred, for a short "don't miss" strip on Home.
- Give the section a title and intro, such as "What's on in Rochester".
Every Events section on a site shows the same events. Past events leave your sections by themselves the day after they end; their pages stay up and point guests to what is on next.
Where (group site): Group site editor → Layout tab → click a page (or Home) → Page Content → Add section → Events Where (property site): Property editor → Layout tab → Home → right panel → Sections → Add section → Events
The Events page
Manage events → Add Events page gives your site a page at /events in your header menu, with every upcoming event and month chips. Each event's page sits under it, so a guest who opens an event and clicks All events comes back to it. A site without an Events page still has event pages; they open in place of Home.
Adding events
Open any Events section → Manage events.
- Import from links: paste up to 8 links, one per line: an event's own page, or a whole events calendar such as your tourism board's (for example visitrochester.com/events/). Haven reads each page's own event details. For a calendar it follows the event pages the calendar links to, or its events feed, and reads each one. It shows what it found (title, dates, venue, photo) with the dated ones ticked. Untick what you don't want and click Add. Photos are copied to your site, so nothing breaks if the organiser's page changes.
- Write an intro for each (on by default): AI writes each event's card line and page intro in your own words, from the facts on the organiser's page only. It never adds a date, price, performer or distance the page doesn't state. Your page is then not a copy of the organiser's, which matters to search engines. Edit them afterwards like any text.
- A page that only lists last year's dates (a festival's guide page often does), or no dates, is shown with a date picker. Set this year's dates to add it; Haven never guesses them.
- Add event: type one in: title, first and last day, start and end times, venue and address, kind (festival, music, sports, university and so on), price, a photo, the card line, the page intro, the official page and a tickets link.
- Found near your homes: events worth a trip that Haven's area research found and dated from their official sources. Add puts one on your site.
Star an event to feature it: it shows first in every section and is the one a Featured only section shows. Use the pencil to edit, the bin to delete. Show past lists the ones that are over.
The stay package
Every event page suggests a stay. For an event of up to four days, guests check in on its first day and check out the morning after its last. For a longer one (a ten-day festival, a holiday market that runs all December, a three-month exhibit), the page suggests its first weekend from today on, Friday to Sunday. Guests can change the dates in the booking bar either way. In the event's Stay package:
- Nights before and Nights after widen it: one night before a Saturday festival suggests Friday to Sunday.
- Package name replaces "Stay for ", for example "Lilac Festival weekend".
- Perk is one line about what you add for event guests ("Picnic blanket and a park map waiting for you", "Late checkout on graduation Sunday"). Haven shows it as written; you provide it.
- Code picks one of this site's discount codes. The page shows it, and every booking link applies it at checkout.
The page then lists the site's homes, free ones first, each marked Free these nights or Booked these nights. Book these dates opens that home's page with the dates already in the booking bar (and the code applied). A home that books on your own outside website links there.
What guests see
- On a section: the event photo with a calendar badge (MAY 8–17), the kind, the title, the venue and Plan your stay (or your package name). The whole card opens the event's page. On now marks one that is under way.
- On the event page: the photo, the event's kind, title and card line; When (with times), Where (with Directions), Price, Tickets & details; your intro; the stay package beside it; the homes for those nights; and More events.
Event pages show in your site's language. If your site is translated, the page around the event is translated, and the event's own title and words stay as you wrote them.
Applies when: the site is published. A hidden site's event pages answer only to you. Turning off Live on the site keeps an event as a draft; turning off Show in search engines keeps its page off search results while it stays on your site.
