I couldn’t have dreamed of a more perfect place for a weekend getaway. Though you’re only a few minutes away from downtown Joshua Tree, you feel like you’re in your own little world at the Outside Inn. Lulu’s attention to detail really shines throughout this humble home. From the pristine decor and thoughtful layout all the way to the high-quality kitchen tools, fancy towels/robes, and environmentally conscious bathroom accessories (currently ordering bamboo toilet paper!), every detail of the space was thoughtful and intentional and shows just how much Lulu cares about her guests’ experience. Thank you, Lulu!

We partner and our dog stayed at the Outside Inn after I had spent over a month quarantining with family prior to Thanksgiving 2020. We decided we wanted to do some post-Thanksgiving decompression on the drive back to San Francisco. The Outside Inn had everything we needed. The location is perfect; close enough for you to drive to what you need, but far enough away from the town of Joshua Tree to feel really secluded. This was a new listing when we stayed, which can always be a bit of a gamble, but everything felt really dialed. The hot tub was great for watching the sunset and moonrise over either horizon. (The moon was so low!) And if you are looking at these pictures wondering if laying in that bed next to the gas fire place after a day of hiking while watching TV will be amazing or not, let me assure you, it will be.

Place was great, a little off the beaten path, but close to the park and fantastic amenities. Definitely gives you that secluded feel, which I personally love. The place was very clean, check-in was easy and Lulu was very helpful and responsive.

I happened to be the first guest at Outside inn and I'd like to start with the positives - it is an amazing brand new studio space with everything you need to relax out in Joshua Tree. Me and my boyfriend booked it for a weekend to get away from the city. The indoor fireplace and the hot tub were especially nice amenities for the winter season in the desert. Bonus points because it is the most well equipped airbnb kitchen I've come across. The issue I faced was post checkout with the host- I was requested to pay additional charges in damages for not leaving one new dish cloth and the duvet cover as clean as I had received it - As a frequent guest on airbnb I have never had an issue with a host regarding the condition of the kitchen cloths or bed linen post use - the general agreement being they will need cleaning/changing between guests. The host insisted that the 2 items had to be replaced and cleaning/dry cleaning did not work. As an expensive vacation rental (944$ for 2 nights) with a hefty cleaning fee built in - I was left with the overall impression that any future guest will need to exercise far more fragility in using the place than average consideration would necessitate.
The stains in question were grease on the dishcloth and a few spatters of blood in one corner of the cover (from my boyfriend having scratched up his knee on a hike) and quite literally the smallest 3 drops of wine on the other end.
