Staying at Ciudad del Mar in Jacó, Costa Rica
By Pines & Beaches Vacation Rentals · November 4, 2026
Staying at Ciudad del Mar in Jacó
Ciudad del Mar is a gated condo community with resort like amenities on the south end of Jacó Beach, set back slightly from the main strip. It's quieter than the center of town but still walkable to restaurants and the beach. If you're looking for a place that feels more like a neighborhood than a hotel, this is a good fit.
The Complex
The development is made up of low-rise condo buildings arranged around shared pools and green space. It's well-maintained and secure, with a gate and on-site staff. The units vary in size — one and two-bedroom layouts are most common — and most have a kitchen, a balcony, and air conditioning. The pools are the social center of the complex, especially in the afternoon when the heat peaks.
Location
You're about a five-minute walk from the beach and a ten-minute walk from the main commercial strip on Avenida Pastor Díaz. That distance is enough to keep the noise down at night, which matters if you're traveling with kids or just want to sleep. There's a small grocery store nearby for basics, and the town's better restaurants are an easy walk or a short drive.
Who It's Good For
Families do well here. The pools are safe, the complex is quiet after dark, and having a kitchen means you're not eating every meal out. Couples who want a base for day trips — Tortuga Island, Carara, Manuel Antonio — also find it convenient. It's not the right pick if you want to be in the middle of Jacó's nightlife, but that's the point.
Tips Before You Arrive
Stock the kitchen on your first day. The grocery stores in Jacó are well-stocked and cheaper than eating out for every meal.
Bring reef-safe sunscreen — it's required at most Costa Rican beaches and harder to find locally than you'd expect.
If you're renting a car, the complex has parking. If not, taxis and rideshares are easy to flag down on the main road.
