By Pines & Beaches Vacation Rentals · November 4, 2026If you're two people looking for a one-bedroom in Garabito for December, the shortlist from our own portfolio is short and specific: Zen Den, Rose Room and Sunflower Suite, all one bedroom and sleeping two, all at Zenergy Casa & Cabinas. If you want a little more room to sprawl, Cabina Plumeria is one bedroom but sleeps three, with a queen and a day-bed. That's four genuine one-bedroom options in one canton, which is more than most of Jacó offers under one roof.
On budget, I'd rather be useful than optimistic. December is the busiest stretch on this coast and rates move with the calendar, so the only number worth planning around is the one that comes back for your exact dates. Send us the nights and we'll quote them directly, including taxes and fees, and booking direct means no platform fees on top.
All four sit at Zenergy Casa & Cabinas, a single property in Garabito with a pool in the middle of it and a dedicated onsite team. What you're choosing between is the bed and the room, not the neighborhood.
There's a shared kitchen at the main house, fully equipped, and guests do use it. The shady gazebo by the pool is where people end up with a book in the hot part of the afternoon. If the idea of cooking alongside another guest makes you tense, that's the honest line between these rooms and a self-contained condo, and worth knowing before you book rather than after.
Every one of these rooms has a desk, which is unusual for rooms at this size and the reason remote workers keep coming back to them. The Zen Den's desk is in the room itself, next to the reading nook, so you can work early, swim at eleven and be back at the keyboard by one. Air conditioning matters more than people expect: the Central Pacific is warm at this time of year, and a room you can cool down is a room you can concentrate in.
If your work involves calls at awkward hours and you'd rather not share a kitchen with anyone, look at Condo Jadura instead. It's a two-bedroom on the sixth floor of the Viva Jacó tower, so you're paying for a bedroom you won't use, but you get your own kitchen and bathroom, an office desk and chair, room-darkening curtains, and a coworking office space downstairs alongside the gym. For a two-week working stay rather than a long weekend, some couples find that trade worth making. It's a partial match to what you asked for, and I'd only push you toward it if the shared-kitchen arrangement is a genuine problem.
Garabito is the canton, and the two names you'll recognize inside it are Jacó and Playa Herradura. Jacó has the surf, the restaurants, the casinos and the noise. Herradura, about fifteen to twenty minutes up the coast road, has Los Sueños Resort & Marina, which built Costa Rica's first marina and turned this stretch into the country's sportfishing capital. The marina has a couple of hundred wet slips and takes boats from thirty feet up to a hundred and eighty.
That matters if fishing is why you're coming. You don't need to stay at the marina to fish out of it: charters leave from Los Sueños and you drive over in the dark, which from a Garabito base is a short run rather than a journey. Back in Marina Village, The Hook Up sits on the second floor of the marina entrance building with the bay and the mountains in front of you and everything from fish and chips to grilled sea bass on the menu. Lanterna does Italian steakhouse, Bambu does sushi, and Dolce Vita handles breakfast.
Down on Herradura's beach itself, El Pelicano is the relaxed beachfront place across from the sand, with Coco's next door doing fusion. Inland, Carara National Park is close enough to do before lunch, and it's where you go for birds rather than beach.
From Juan Santamaría airport outside San José, plan on an hour and a half to two hours by car. The spread is real and it's traffic, not distance: a Friday afternoon landing puts you at the top of that bracket, a mid-morning one at the bottom. The public bus does it for a few dollars but takes well over twice as long once you count the transfer in San José, so unless the budget is tight, the private drive buys you half a day.
Jacó to Herradura is a quarter of an hour or so either way, by taxi or on the local bus. If you're fishing out of Los Sueños at dawn and staying in Garabito, that's the drive you'll be doing in the dark, and it's an easy one.
These rooms are personally managed, which in practice means you're talking to someone who knows which bed is which rather than a call center. Give us your exact December dates, how many of you there are, and the answer to one question: does the bathroom need to be private? That single preference decides between the Sunflower Suite and the two main-house rooms faster than anything else.
We'll come back with what's open, the nightly rate for those dates, taxes and fees, the minimum stay, and the total. Book direct and there are no platform fees on top of it. If nothing one-bedroom is free for your nights, we'd rather tell you that and point you at something that is than sell you a room you'll regret.
