Jason’s place was spacious, stylish, clean, and easily accessible to the central hubs of town. All amenities were provided, and the house was thoughtfully supplied with anything we needed. He was a communicative host, the backyard was great, and we’d definitely stay again.
We really enjoyed our weekend at the house. It was very comfortable, clean, and beautifully decorated. We appreciated having the fire pit in the backyard with plenty of wood to use. We were able to walk to the downtown to enjoy the shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. We would love to go back in the summer to experience the lakes as well.
We really enjoyed our stay at Iron Ore Retreat. The beautifully renovated older home has some cool original features, such as the curved (and slightly steep) staircase leading to the bedrooms upstairs. But the house is also thoroughly modern, with every amenity you could possibly want. Some thoughtful touches were much appreciated—such as three options for coffee-making: Keurig, French press, or drip coffee maker (as well as a drawer stocked with coffees, teas, sweeteners, and creamers); and the s’mores kit that makes the fire pit even more appealing. The description mentions the train tracks adjacent to the backyard. Freight trains do come through with some frequency. The accompanying sounds and brief rattling of the house could bother some people, but did not trouble us at all. Overall, the house has a relaxed vibe that made our visit to Oconomowoc even more enjoyable. We feel sure we’ll be back soon.
The Iron Ore Retreat hosted my team and I for a work event. The hosts, Jason & Melissa, were accommodating for a special request I made and would stay with them again anytime! Each room was clean and decorated with care; we could tell a lot of hard work went into making this place special. The location is very close to downtown Oconomowoc. We enjoyed stopping at Roots coffee shop, the Crafty Cow for lunch, and Homebody boutique during our stay. I recommend staying at the Iron Ore Retreat!

Up to 2 dogs are allowed. Crate as needed. Please pick up after your dog outside. Dog owners are asked to cover the furniture and bedding with provided blankets. An extra $100 cleaning fee is charged, if dog hair is found on couches, beds or the dog is not cleaned up after, inside or outside. 🚂 A Note on the Neighborhood We are located in a quiet residential "No Horn" train zone. While the backyard does back up to tracks, there is a fence and trains do not blow whistles here. 🗓️Looking for a longer stay this winter or spring? The Iron Ore Retreat is a non-smoking residence which includes any kind of smoking (vaping, cigars, e-cigarettes, etc.).
Dog owner rules: We are happy to offer a pet friendly rental. However, we have dog rules. Dog Hair- Sheets are provided in the downstairs closet for dog owners. Dog hair on furniture and beds has been a headache for our cleaner in the past, so we have to now charge $150 extra in cleaning if we find dog hair on furniture and beds. We understand that dog hair will get on the floor and consider sweeping to be part of the general clean. Dog Poop-Please remove from the yard. Poop bags are provided. No indoor smoking of any kind (vaping, e-cigarettes, cigars, etc.) is allowed. $500 fine if violated. The booking guest (primary renter) must be 21+ years old and is required to stay on the property for the full reservation.
