Lisa Harris is an interior designer by trade, and she and her husband live just outside Blowing Rock. She designed each of these homes for guests: a log cabin, two mountain-modern cottages and a four-bedroom barn on Elk Ridge, a private road 2.5 miles from the village, and Elkstone, a Craftsman house in town for stays of a month or more. Firewood is complimentary, entry is keyless and dogs are welcome.

Blowing Rock is a small mountain village with a big reputation: shops, cafes and fine dining along Main Street, the Blue Ridge Parkway two miles north of downtown, and hiking, biking, climbing and skiing all around it. The homes on Elk Ridge are 2.5 miles from the village; from Elkstone you can walk.
