Por Pines & Beaches Vacation Rentals · 4 de noviembre de 2026Pinetop-Lakeside gets a lot of attention for its trails, its fishing, and its cool summer temperatures. What it doesn't get enough credit for is how good a day in town can be. The Orchard is pulling people in all summer long. The craft fair circuit runs from May through October. The boutique shops along the main corridor are the kind of places you actually want to browse. And if antiquing is your thing, you could spend a full day — or two — working through the options in and around town without running out of places to look.
Here's what's worth knowing before you go.
The Orchard is an outdoor hangout space hosted by Charlie Clark's Steakhouse, one of Pinetop-Lakeside's most established restaurants. It runs through most of the summer and brings together live music, food, craft beer, and a relaxed outdoor atmosphere that's hard to find anywhere else at this elevation.
The setup is exactly what a mountain summer evening calls for: open air, cold drinks, local musicians, and food from a kitchen that knows what it's doing. Charlie Clark's has been a Pinetop institution for decades, and The Orchard is their way of extending that hospitality into the warmer months with something a little more casual and community-focused.
Throughout the season, The Orchard also hosts craft fairs and vendor markets on the grounds. Local makers, artists, and small-batch producers set up alongside the regular food and drink operation, which makes it a good stop whether you're there for the music, the shopping, or just a cold beer on a warm afternoon. Check Charlie Clark's social pages and website for the current schedule — the lineup changes week to week and some nights draw a crowd, so it's worth knowing what's on before you head over.
It's the kind of place that turns into a regular stop once you know about it. Most guests who find it end up going back at least once more before they check out.
The Orchard isn't the only place to catch a craft fair. Pinetop-Lakeside and the surrounding White Mountains communities run a solid circuit of outdoor markets and artisan fairs from late spring through early fall, and they're worth building a morning or afternoon around.
The Pinetop-Lakeside area hosts regular seasonal markets featuring local artists, woodworkers, jewelers, potters, and food vendors. Show Low, just a short drive down the mountain, has its own market scene. Springerville and Eagar, further east along the Mogollon Rim, host fairs that draw makers from across the region. The White Mountain communities tend to support each other's events, so a good fair in one town usually has vendors you won't see anywhere else.
The best way to find what's happening during your stay is to check the White Mountain Independent events calendar and the Pinetop-Lakeside Chamber of Commerce listings. Local Facebook groups for the area are also surprisingly active and often have the most current information on pop-up markets and one-off events. Ask us when you check in — we keep a running list of what's on during the season and are happy to point you in the right direction.
The main corridor through Pinetop-Lakeside has a good mix of independent shops that are worth slowing down for. These aren't chain stores or tourist traps — they're small businesses run by people who live here, selling things that are actually worth buying.
You'll find clothing boutiques with a mountain-casual sensibility, gift shops stocked with locally made goods, galleries showing work by regional artists, and specialty shops carrying everything from outdoor gear to handmade candles. The kind of places where the person behind the counter knows the product and can tell you the story behind it.
Shopping local in a small mountain town like Pinetop-Lakeside matters more than it does in a city. These businesses are the backbone of the community, and the money you spend here stays here. It also makes for a better shopping experience: you're more likely to find something genuinely interesting than you are at a mall, and you're less likely to come home with something you could have ordered online.
Plan a slow morning or afternoon for it. Walk the main strip, duck into the shops that catch your eye, and don't be in a hurry. The best finds usually come when you're not looking for anything in particular.
Antiquing in and around Pinetop-Lakeside is a legitimate way to spend a day, and the area has more options than most visitors expect. The mix of longtime mountain residents, estate sales, and the steady turnover of vacation-area properties means the inventory is always changing — which is exactly what antique hunters want.
Red Barn is one of the area's best-known antique destinations and a good first stop. The selection runs wide: furniture, vintage kitchenware, tools, collectibles, Western memorabilia, and the kind of miscellaneous finds that make antique hunting worth doing. The barn format means there's a lot of ground to cover, and the inventory shifts regularly enough that repeat visits are worth it.
Beyond Red Barn, the Show Low and Lakeside corridor has several antique shops and consignment stores worth checking. Show Low, about 15 minutes from Pinetop, has a handful of dealers with good furniture and vintage goods. The towns along Highway 60 heading east toward Springerville occasionally have small shops and estate sale operations that don't show up in the usual directories — the kind of places you find by driving slowly and keeping your eyes open.
If you're serious about antiquing, plan a full day and work your way through the corridor. Start in Pinetop-Lakeside, move through Show Low, and see where the day takes you. Bring cash — smaller dealers often prefer it — and leave room in the car.
Between the craft fairs, the boutiques, and the antique shops, you're going to need to eat. Pinetop-Lakeside has a solid restaurant scene for a mountain town its size.
Charlie Clark's Steakhouse is the anchor — it's been here since 1938 and the food holds up. Beyond that, the town has good Mexican food, a couple of reliable breakfast spots, and a few places that do the mountain-casual thing well: burgers, pizza, local beer, and a porch to sit on. Ask us for current recommendations when you check in. The scene shifts a little each season and we'd rather point you somewhere good than have you end up somewhere that's coasting on its reputation.
All three of our Pinetop properties put you within easy reach of everything above. The Orchard, the antique shops, the boutiques, and the craft fair circuit are all a short drive from any of them — and after a full day in town, coming back to a cabin in the pines beats a hotel room every time.
